Bright gilt collars, lockets, and base line. Some wear to the gilt. Green, brown and yellow painted landscape. Antique Pair Rare STAFFORDSHIRE Spaniel Spill Vase dogs.

Wonderful pair of matching vases. To sit either side of a mantle piece, these are moulded and glazed earthware figures of King Charles spaniels, sitting beside tree-trunk vases that resemble trees or bushes when decked with bouquets.

With their proud stature, gold lockets, regal glare and flowing fur these figurines are typical of the fashionable and very popular Victorian ornament and date from around 1870--1880. The inside of the vase is a wonderful coral color, that truly accents the over-alll look of the statue. Collectors items now, the Staffordshire spaniel was the quitessential bourgeois status symbol ornament.

No mantle or table top complete without a pair of spaniels standing guard. The popularity of these figures may owe it to Quenn Victoria's own pet spaniel. Both vases stand 13.5" tall with one being slightly taller at 14.5" tall.

They are both 7 across. Base is 3.75 front to back. Condition This is a rare pair of Staffordshire dogs that are approximately 140-150 years old. There is crazing on the back of the figures but no noticeable crazing on the front.

There is wear to the grass area, but it does not distract from the overall awesomeness of the figures. A couple very light chips to the paint on the ears, but again nothing that distracts from the over all looks of these fine, rare statues. There s a small crack towards the top on the back side.

And again, one figurine is about 1 taller than its mate. This difference in size only enhances the over look of these highly collectible figurines. The overall condition of this pair is outstanding.

And it could be said Normal wear for age. These are true statement pieces, worthy of a mantle or table top. Each figurine weighs in at just over 3 pounds.

One of a kind find. I only have one set of these spaniels.
